Prior to making larger studio pieces I often paint plein air to capture the feeling. This painting also captures the energy of the bamboo by use of the color and the lines radiating upward in the piece.

Some days when painting outdoors en plein air, it is not about what I see. It is all about how I feel. The energy takes over and color is more important than making the scene look as real. The painting speaks in a new way, more calligraphy is evident and it is all about the energy.
